WPA President's Message, February 2020

John Schneider, MD, FAPA

When Chekhov saw the long winter, he saw a winter bleak and dark and bereft of hope. Yet we know that winter is just another step in the cycle of life. But standing here among the people of Punxsutawney and basking in the warmth of their hearths and hearts, I couldn't imagine a better fate than a long and lustrous winter.  — Phil Connors (Bill Murray), Groundhog Day

The stretch of January to March can always seem a bit grim.  This year, the world seems to be growing more scary, unhinged and capricious as we watch.  While this is but a cycle in a grander tableau of history, we know we ought to strive for equanimity without judgement.  I believe, Bill Murray’s Phil has it correct.  That is to savor and delight in the warmth of our peers, friends and fellows.

To that end, we hope to see you at WPA 2020 Annual Meeting: Autism Spectrum Disorder Across the Lifespan, on March 5-7, 2020, at The Edgewater, Madison, WI. Download brochure here, or register online.
